D-NOME: Building Platform Technology to enhance molecular diagnostics!

The epoch-making discoveries in the field of molecular diagnostics have remarkably enhanced the healthcare and life-science industry. This advancement has helped clinicians get a comprehensive analysis of the human genes to understand disorders and diseases and opt for the best treatment for patients. In this era of modern yet cost-effective next-generation molecular diagnostics techniques, , healthcare institutions around the world are seamlessly optimizing patient care, enhancing testing accuracy, and selecting appropriate and personalized medicine to treat infectious & genetic diseases, cancer, diabetes, and so forth.

Giving thoughts to the increasing demand for molecular diagnostic approaches especially after the onset of COVID 19, co-founders Divya Sriram & Sujoy Deb envisaged to set up a deep-tech &  biotech startup-D-NOME, disrupting molecular diagnostics. A cancer molecular biologist and a genomics expert, the dynamic duo have combined their experiences in molecular diagnostics and Next-generation Sequencing to create a room-temperature LAMP technology. Their amalgamated passion and vision brought into being an innovative D-LAMP platform technology that is based on advanced molecular tools and synthetic biology. This endeavour is enabling advanced molecular diagnostics like RT-PCR & Genomics (NextGenSeq) to be affordable, scalable and accessible to all.

The company is virtually incubated at Center of Excellence – IoT & AI, Gurugram, which is a Joint initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Govt. of Haryana, and NASSCOM.

How is D-Nome solving the problems of diagnostic labs?

D-LAMP’s room temperature RT-PCR technology removes the dependency on RT-PCR machines. It is a 1-reagent and 1-step system that helps labs conduct tests in just 30 minutes without sourcing multiple reagents or skilled technicians. This is especially designed for diagnostic labs & hospitals to help them reduce their time, effort, and operational costs invested in the entire molecular diagnostics workflow. “Going forward we also aim to expand D-LAMP into point-of-care testing at low-cost settings due to its ease of use and affordability”, explains Divya Sriram, CEO, D-NOME.

Diagnostic accuracy has been a major concern for molecular tests and D-Nome has been at the forefront in managing this crisis. “D-LAMP works on a novel room-temperature technology based on the principles of LAMP isothermal amplification. Its patent-pending reagent composition, is what makes it a reliable, specific, and cost-effective molecular diagnostic platform that has been cross-validated with industry gold-standards. It is world’s first room-temperature LAMP technology,” states Sujoy Deb, Co-founder & CTO, D-Nome.

Interestingly, D-LAMP technology platform allows for use in multiple adjacent markets including livestock screening, veterinary diagnostics, and agriculture molecular testing.

D-Nome is steadily climbing the ladder of success and the impact it has created in the ecosystem is quite commendable. In just one year of formation, the startup has received the recognition and support of some of the premier biotech incubation centres (AIC-CCMB, C-CAMP & IKP) and organizations like C-CAMP InDx (indigenization of diagnostics) and NASSCOM. They are recipients of the respected BIRAC –BIG Grant and are pre-seed invested by London-based investors Entrepreneur First.

D-Nome has participated and won several innovative challenges, bagging distinguished awards in India and international platforms. D-nome was selected from over 3000+ applicants in National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition 2021 and won the-Syngene & Cytiva Prizes. Recognized as a deep-tech pioneer, D-nome is the winner of the prestigious Hello Tomorrow Global Deep-Tech Challenge 2021 (for the medical and pharma category), held in Paris, France, selected from over 4000 applicants worldwide with a challenging 8-month long selection process including multiple technical rounds.
