India is expected to rank amongst the top three global healthcare markets in terms of incremental growth by 2020. The Indian healthcare sector is forecasted to reach US$ 160 billion in 2017, accounting for about 4.2 percent of GDP, and is poised to grow to US$ 280 billion by 2020. With the launch of the “Digital India” initiative, India is expected to be a leader in IT use in healthcare (e-health) by 2019.
The rapid adoption of emerging digital technologies by this sector has proven to be one of the key factors behind the success of affordable digital healthcare.
